Most people leave a session feeling clear, relaxed, more self aware and centred . It’s good to be mindful to go gentle with yourself afterwards. The treatment will support the clearing energy even after the session, so it’s good to drink extra water, and even take a nice salty bath or shower afterwards if you can.
To ensure you get the most benefit from your treatment it is recommended to avoid intense physical exertion for 24 hours after session.
Do drink plenty of water to encourage the elimination of toxins and to avoid headaches, avoid caffeine & alcohol for the next 24 hours to allow your body to focus on the process of healing.
Welcome integration time, most people simply note a sense of well-being and relaxation; however, sometimes people report feeling tearful or emotions clearing, but this is usually short lived and transitory and is part of the healing process. Some may experience reactions, whereby the body starts to release toxins as it starts to heal itself. This could include feeling changes in energy levels, feeling emotional, hot or cold, nauseous or dizzy or needing to sleep. These symptoms are temporary, and a general sense of wellbeing and balance will follow.
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way, it is useful to give feedback to the reflexologist as this may show the response of your body to treatment. This in turn might help the reflexologist to tailor a treatment plan specific to your needs.

The underlying theory behind reflexology is that there are reflex points on the feet that correspond to the specific organs, glands and other parts of the body and the basic principle of this therapy is that the two feet as a whole represent a microcosm, an exact mirror of the entire body.
Reflexology is not used to diagnose medical conditions and does not take the place of medical advice. It aims to help you achieve and maintain good health and is a non-intrusive therapy which can be used on everyone, young or old. The gentle pressure and massage of selective areas of the feet helps to release tension gently easing away those stresses and strains that build up over time.
Please note there are some reasons why you would not be able to have reflexology:
· 1st Trimester of pregnancy

· Infectious disease
· Other potential reasons, such as when you are undergoing imminent medical tests (next 48 hours) and treatment, although this may be temporary, for example when tests are imminent or medication is new. It is not a diagnosis or replacement for medical care.

More and more maternity wards and clinics all over the UK are slowly seeing the benefits Reflexology, which may help reduce labour intensity and duration. The exact origin of this powerful therapy has various roots and contributors who have advanced this knowledge. To name a few, Dr William Fitzgerald who called it Zone Therapy and drew it to the attention of the medical world between 1915 and 1917. Dr William Fitzgerald (1872 – 1942) received his medical degree from the University of Vermont in 1895. Further physicians who furthered this work include Dr Joe Shelby and his student, was Eunice Ingham (1889 – 1974). Eunice Ingham extended the work of Dr Fitzgerald and painstakingly mapped the feet with all the corresponding organs and glands of the body. She was a real pioneer who was determined to help people to help themselves. In the early years, she worked with doctors to prove her findings and to demonstrate to them that reflexology was a useful medical tool. Sufficient to say that it has stood the test of time and has helped thousands of people to better health.
